Find your hanging piece before your opponent does
Every position in this drill has the same problem: one of your pieces is about to be lost. Your job is to spot it. It's the exact check you should be doing on every move of a real game — made into a short, repeatable rep.
What it trains
- A pre-move safety check on your own pieces
- Spotting attacks your opponent created on their last move
- Breaking the habit of only looking at your own plans
How it works
- 01
A position appears with you to move.
- 02
Right-click the piece (or pieces) of yours that are about to be lost.
- 03
See the answer and the attack you missed, then go again.
Why it stops blunders
Below 1400, the most common way to lose is simple: you hang a piece, or you miss that your opponent is threatening one. Training the "what of mine is in danger?" question until it's automatic is the fastest rating gain most players can get.

- Who is this drill for?
- Players roughly 600–1400 who lose games to one-move blunders and want to fix the habit, not memorise patterns.
